FEDERAL TAX REBATES also known as ECONOMIC STIMULUS PAYMENTS |
The AARP TaxAide program offers
a good explanation of how the Federal Tax Rebates will be handled:
"If you already file a 1040 tax form, there is nothing further you need to
do in order to receive a stimulus payment. The first payments will be mailed
in May.
Your stimulus payment will not be included with your tax refund.
Tax returns filed with the IRS solely for the purpose of receiving stimulus checks
are not due by April 15. Although you must file to receive a stimulus check,
you have until late fall to submit a 1040A Form.
Older Americans who are Social Security recipients and did not file taxes last
year can expect to receive the packet in late March. The IRS will send a packet
with a letter, filing guidance, the necessary 1040A Form, and an example of a
completed form.
