Free Tax Help

Volunteers will help LOW INCOME and ELDERLY residents fill out and file their state and federal income taxes.

If you know someone who is eligible,
please help us spread the word.

Volunteers will also assist residents who are eligible to receive tax refunds from the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The EITC can result in a significant income boost — up to $4,500 for those who qualify!

IRS Trained volunteers will offer assistance to low income families / individuals and the elderly
during February, March, and early April.

If claiming child and dependent care expenses, the name, address, and social security number or EIN (employer's identification number) of the provider
If claiming the Indiana Renter's Deduction the name, address, and phone number of the landlord
Any tax booklets received
A copy of last year's tax return
For direct deposit of your refund, you must provide bank account and routing numbers

ECONOMIC STIMULUS PAYMENTS

IRS Tax Rebate Packet: This it - the packet that many will receive in the mail. Includes clear instructions, sample forms, and specific details for filling out and mailing form 1040A.

The AARP TaxAide program offers a good explanation of how the Federal Tax Rebates will be handled:

"If you already file a 1040 tax form, there is nothing further you need to do in order to receive a stimulus payment. The first payments will be mailed in May.

Your stimulus payment will not be included with your tax refund.

Tax returns filed with the IRS solely for the purpose of receiving stimulus checks are not due by April 15. Although you must file to receive a stimulus check, you have until late fall to submit a 1040A Form.

Older Americans who are Social Security recipients and did not file taxes last year can expect to receive the packet in late March. The IRS will send a packet with a letter, filing guidance, the necessary 1040A Form, and an example of a completed form.

Be advised:

You don't have to pay a fee to get your stimulus payment or to receive your payment faster. There are individuals who claim they can speed up your payment - for a fee. Some will even ask you to sign away your benefit to them. If you do what these individuals ask, you will get less. Don't give away your benefit to anyone else.
Please keep in mind that only the IRS can send you an official letter regarding your tax situation.

The IRS will never do any of the following:
Call you and ask for Social Security or bank account information
E-mail you and ask for Social Security or bank account information
Send a letter that tells you to respond by phone
Send a letter that tells you to respond via e-mail
Come to your home "
