Find Information
There are many ways to find information in the library ...
- You can begin by searching the computer
catalog.
- Use a Subject search when you are looking for items about a
particular topic.
- Use an Author search when you know the name of the person
who wrote the item you want.
- Use a Title search when you know either all, or the first few
words of a title.
- Use a Keyword search if you are not sure of the exact wording
of a subject, author or title.
- You can also go right to the shelves to look for books.
- Our non-fiction books are organized by the Dewey Decimal System.
- Our fiction books are organized in alphabetical order by the author's
last name. See our Booklists on the Web
for suggestions of good books to read. Ask librarians at the reference desk
for other suggestions. (Librarians love to recommend good books.)
- Librarians and other people in the library can also help you find
information for your homework assignments. During the school
year, students in grades 1-6 can
receive homework assistance in the Homework Center on the first floor of
the Main Library from members of the Indiana Reading Team. The Homework
Center is open Monday - Thursday, 3:30-8 p.m.; Friday, 3:30-5:30 p.m.;
Saturday, Noon-4:30 p.m. and Sunday, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
You can also check the Homework Helpers web page
for information about common homework topics and recommended web sites to
help with your research.
- Other materials to help you find information include: magazines,
videos, DVDs, audiocassettes, CDs, CD-ROM software and other electronic resources.
Please ask questions at the "Ask Questions Here"
