Checkout Rules for Children's Materials

Children of all ages are permitted to check out library materials. Apply for a library card at one of the the Checkout Desks.

Most materials in the Children's Department may be checked out for a three-week time period. Videos and DVDs may be checked out for one week.

Overall, there is no total limit on the number of items you can borrow from the library. However, to help us best share our supply of books with the largest number of people, we ask that you please try not to take every book on a single subject, for example, "Ancient Egypt." (Teachers: please consider Requesting a Closed Reserve Collection when you assign your class a comprehensive research topic so that all students may have access to materials in the library.)

All materials may be renewed, unless the item has a "hold" on it.

If you want an item which is currently checked out, please ask a staff member at the "Ask Questions Here" desk to put a hold on it for you, or use our Web Catalog to request an item.

Toys in bags are for home use only. Please do not remove toys from bags to use in the library. Keeping the toys in bags until they are checked out helps ensure the pieces remain together and the toy is ready for the next person to use at home. Please note: Toys are only cleaned periodically by library staff. Please check condition of toy and clean before and after your child's use.

For more information on borrowing materials from the library, please see MCPL's Checkout Information page. If you have any questions about our checkout rules, please ask; we would be happy to discuss them with you.
