Search Tools with Filters
Many of the general search tools provide you with the option to have
your search results filtered to exclude sites that contain
adult-oriented content. (Please note that no filtering tool is 100%
accurate.) If you have questions about how to
select the filtering option for the following search tools, please ask a
librarian for assistance. Or, try one of the Search Tools Designed for
Kids.
- Alta Vista's
Family Filter Set Up Page - http://www.altavista.com/web/ffset
At the set up page, choose whether you want to screen just image, video
and audio searches for adult content, or whether you want to filter all
web pages that feature adult content. Click the "Save Your Settings"
button to finish. (The Password Protection is optional.)
- Google's
Filtering Options - http://www.google.com/preferences
Under the SafeSearch Filtering heading, you can choose whether Google uses
strict filtering to block explicit text and images, or moderate filtering
to filter images only. Click the "Save Preferences" button to
confirm your selection.
- Yahoo
Search Preferences - http://search.yahoo.com/preferences/preferences?
Under the SafeSearch category, click on Edit to restrict adult-oriented content from search results.
If you have a Yahoo account, you can log in to your account and save your search preferences permanently. Otherwise,
your search preferences are temporarily saved to the computer where you are working.
