Preschool Programs

TINY-TO-TWO PROGRAMS

Infants and toddlers and their caregivers are invited to this program of songs, rhymes, fingerplays, books and activities. Choose one of two sessions.

Please register in advance.
Click on your preferred time to register.

Birth through age 2 1/2.
Third Friday of the Month at 10:15 OR 11:15.

PRESCHOOL STORYTIMES
This program allows preschoolers and kindergarten children to enjoy storytelling, puppets and music in a social setting.

Please register in advance.

Evening Story Time and Craft - Ellettsville
This is a chance for the whole family to enjoy a story, a movie and a craft. The story and movie and craft will appeal to a wide range of ages, so bring the whole family. Craft supplies provided by the Friends of the Library.

Read to Dogs in the Library - Ellettsville
The Monroe County Humane Association's VIPaws program (A Delta Society Pet Partners affiliate) will bring dogs to the library. The dogs are certified therapy dogs and are ready to hear your child read to them. Reading aloud to these sweet dogs encourages reading and has been proven to increase reading scores.

Puck Players Puppets - Ellettsville
This cozy and clever puppet troupe will perform a story based on the characters in the classic children’s “Three Billy Goats Gruff.” Children love the way Puck Players play with the story and make it new and exciting as they invite participation.

The Children’s Librarian will choose a few new books to share with older children every month. Many new books are perfect to read aloud or “story tell” to school age children. Each program will end with a short film that comes from a book.

Dennis the Elf - Ellettsville
Popular "Adzooks Puppets" present the story of mixed up ingredients and a mischievous "Helping Hand" that make a mess of things when Dennis the Elf tries to bake a gingerbread cookie for the holidays. It's up to the audience to help save the day in time for the festivities!

While some birds fly south for the winter, many stay right here in your backyard. Make snacks for our feathered friends and assemble a bird identification book to help your family recognize who's coming to dinner. All supplies are provided by our Friends of the Library. Dress to mess!

Instruction to calm and care for your baby presented Certified Massage Therapist Melissa Larimer. Massage is particularly good for digestive issues and motor development and bonding. Participants should bring a soft blanket.

Freedom is My Home - Ellettsville
This onewoman play about the Underground Railroad is told from the point of view of Quaker woman and abolitionist Margaret Ella Scott. She tells stories of daring escapes and secret codes used in the course of helping runaways. This program, adopted by the National Park Service, the National Women's History Project, and the Indiana Historical Society leaves each listener with the question "If called upon, how would you respond to someone in need?"

Sharing books with your child helps them develop a love of reading and helps them develop valuable schoolreadiness skills. But how can you share a book with a squirmy toddler who won’t sit still? Bring your child to this storytime program, and librarian Penny Gillie will demonstrate several ways to get them involved with books and early literacy.
