Winston Churchill and the Art of the Written Word

Guest Speaker, Michael Shelden

Come hear acclaimed biographer, journalist, and engaging speaker Michael Shelden talk about his recently published book Young Titan: the Making of Winston Churchill. This is the first biography focused on Winston Churchill's early career: a never-before-told account of his ambitious romantic pursuits, his outmaneuvering of rival political giants, and the fatal mistakes that would sideline him for years. The featured speaker at the Friends of the Library Annual Meeting, Shelden will discuss Churchill's love affair with literature and his work as a writer. Shelden will be available to sign books after the talk. Our friends at T.I.S. College Bookstore will have all of Shelden's books available for purchase. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome!

" Young Titan Michael Shelden has given us the gift of Churchill's fascinating formative years. It's all here—the boy wonder, adventurer, romantic, orator, and eloquent man in the arena. I didn't want it to end.” —Tom Brokaw, author of The Greatest Generation

Michael Shelden is the author of five biographies, among them the best-selling Mark Twain: Man In White, which was chosen as one of the best books of 2010 by the Library Journal and the Christian Science Monitor. His Orwell: the Authorized Biography was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Shelden was a features writer for the Daily Telegraph (London) and a book critic for the Baltimore Sun.
