November 30 – Mid-December: Workers will be removing carpet and applying wall and floor finishes on the first floor. Visitors to the library should be aware that fumes, dust and noise will result from this work. Completed
November 1 – November 8: Our Children's Services will be closed as they move into their Outpost in Rooms 1B and 1C. You should plan on visiting the Ellettsville Branch or the Bookmobile for your children's reading needs during this period. Children's movies and some children's music will be available in our Movies and Music area on the 1st floor during this time. Completed
November 9: Children's Services will reopen in Rooms 1B and 1C with a limited collection and limited services while their space is renovated. Children's movies and music will remain in our Movies and Music area during this time. Completed
January 24 – January 31, 2010: The Children’s Outpost in IB and IC will close as we move back into our renovated space. During this week Children's DVDs will be available in our Movies & Music Department. Homework Help will continue to operate out of Room 1A and there will be a small browsing collection of Children's books available in the Atrium. Completed
February 1, 2010: The renovated Children's Department will reopen. Come and see our wonderful new space! Completed
November 6, 2009: The Checkout Desk on the 1st floor will close. We will move checkout to a temporary space in our atrium. During this time you will be able to return and check-out materials. You will be asked to go to the 2nd floor Checkout Desk for the payment of fines and fees that are not done at the Express Check stations. Completed
February 1, 2010: The Checkout Desk will reopen in our newly renovated space. Completed
February 28, 2010: Please join us between 2:00 and 3:00 to celebrate the completion of the 1st floor renovations.
November 18 – 25: Driving lanes and parking spot changes:
November 6 – 7: Our parking lot will be closed for excavation and curb work. Completed
January – March, 2010: New curb cuts on Kirkwood and in our parking lot as well as a new bicycle parking area on the NW corner of the building will be created. Completed
January – March, 2010: Grant Street drainage work and sidewalk repairs will reduce flooding potential. Completed
January – Late March, 2010: Excavation and construction work will continue in our parking lot as a new Drive-through lane is created. Parking on the east side of our lot will be restricted until this work is completed. Completed
Early February 2010: Work will begin on the 2nd floor. The first stages will create a new circulation area & new VITAL tutoring spaces. Work on the new Drive-up will also continue during this time.
February 3, 2010: El Centro reopens in Room 1A. Completed
February 4 & 5, 2010: VITAL will close as they move into their temporary home in Room 1C. Completed
February 6, 2010: The VITAL Office will reopen in 1C where tutors will meet their students. Completed
March 1, 2010: Spanish and Asian DVDs and CDs will be moved downstairs to “Movies and Music” as construction begins in the northwest corner of the 2nd floor where our new circulation department will be located. Spanish print materials will move to the shelves in the 1st floor atrium. Completed
March 8, 2010 – Mid-June, 2010: Shelving movers will begin relocating shelving to clear space for carpeting that will be installed later in March and April. The process of moving shelves will continue on through June as new flooring is installed throughout the 2nd floor. Access to collection areas will be restricted during the moving process but patrons may ask for assistance from staff at the Information Desk. They may also return later that day if they wish to browse the collection. Seating areas, shelving, computer carrels and gathering spaces will move and change throughout this period of time.
April 29 – May 1, 2010: VITAL and El Centro offices will move into their newly renovated spaces on the 2nd floor. Rooms 1A, 1B, and 1C will be open for booking as of May 1st. Completed
Mid-June, 2010: Circulation services on the 2nd floor will move into their new location with enhanced self-check opportunities as work on our new drive-up continues.
June, 2010: Work on finishes and flooring will begin in the VITAL Resource Room. Access to resources may be restricted during June. Completed
July, 2010: Our new drive-up will become operational as we close the Grant Street Drive-Up. Traffic patterns will change once the drive-up is functional. Patrons will enter the library through the easternmost entry point and exit through the westernmost point of egress in the lot. Signs will inform visitors about these changes when necessary. In addition, we will be creating a new arrivals space where the Circulation Department used to be and finishing flooring and finishes across the 2nd floor.
