One to One Tutoring – for adult literacy and beginning ENL learners.
Interested learners should contact the VITAL office to schedule an appointment.  Non-English speaking adults may have an interpreter present. We begin with a conversation to determine reading abilities, learning needs, and life goals.

The assigned tutor then develops personalized lesson plans for the learner. Tutoring pairs discuss their progress, what is working well, and what to improve in future sessions.  The tutor and learner meet weekly for a minimum of an hour and a half, in the VITAL area.  Successful students are motivated to learn and have decided to participate in the VITAL program for themselves. Effective tutoring cannot be mandated by a third party.

English Conversation Groups – for ENL learners with intermediate or higher English conversation skills. English Conversation Groups provide speaking and listening practice and the opportunity to meet new people. Eight-week Conversation Groups are offered 5 times a year. English Conversation Group enrollment may take place at any time during regular MCPL hours. Out of respect for our volunteer group leaders, students are asked to be on time and have consistent attendance.
