Community Outreach

Outreach banner

The Community Outreach Department expands access to library materials and services by reducing barriers of literacy, mobility, and geography.

We are dedicated to delivering library services and materials to county residents who do not have easy access to our library buildings.

Bookmobile

In service since 1929, the Bookmobile is a rolling library branch with weekly stops throughout the county.

Homebound

We deliver to you. Library volunteers and staff provide this free, personalized service to Monroe County residents confined to their home due to chronic or extended illness, physical disability, or significant transportation problems.

Jail Library

The Jail Library Project is a cooperative agreement between the Monroe County Correctional Center and the Monroe County Public Library which provides library materials to jail inmates.

Outreach Van

The Community Outreach Van provides browsing collections of library materials inside nursing homes, senior activity centers, and senior living facilities.

Preschool services

We provide early literacy support for all Head Start locations and other large preschool facilities through on-site programming, book deliveries and Every Child Ready to Read workshops for families, teachers and caregivers.

VITAL -- Volunteers in Tutoring Adult Learners

VITAL pairs volunteer tutors with adults in our community who need to improve basic reading, math, or English speaking skills.
