Last weekend I watched a “reality” documentary called Sweet Grass . It represents the name of Sweet Grass County in Montana. The film features a family of ranchers that take several hundred sheep out on a long and arduous cattle drive to graze for fresh grass in the mountains before returning home. Unlike most documentaries, this one is done in a detache fashion. There are no conversations between the subjects in the film and the filming crew. All participation is limited to just viewing how these shepherds run their ranch from the winter season in to the spring season. There is a bit of cursing in the film but ranch work and herding can be a very stressful job. Other than that, it’s a unique kind of documentary and well worth seeing.
Also, if like this then you will probably like the Last American Cowboy .
