Island of the Blue dolphins is the story of Karana, a young native American Indian girl who was left on the Island of Blue dolphins from 1835 to 1853. the Island of Blue dolphins or San Nicholas is an island out in the middle of the Pacific ocean off the coast of California. In 1835, the people of Karana's village, Galas-at, all boarded boats headed for California. Just as they started to set sail, Karana realized that her little brother, Ramo, had been left on the island. so she jumped overboard to save him. As a result, they were both left on the island. Unfortunately, Ramo was killed by wild dogs that inhabited the island two days later. After getting over Ramo's death, Karana built her self a shelter and taught her self to hunt. the rest of the book goes on to tell about her life alone on the island and her adventures
I don't know of anything similar to this story.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys subtle adventures.
