Kit Tyler has been forced to leave her home in Barbados and her grandfather's plantation. She can't fit in to her new family. Then she meets Hannah, an old woman who lives on the edge of Blackbird Pond. She goes there to get away from her home, but then Hannah is dubbed a witch, and sailors on the Dolphin take her to a home in Saybrook.
