Reading the Rosies 2012 Program Series

More than just a book club! Each individual session will mix passionate discussion of the nominees for the 2012-2013 Indiana High School Book Award (Rosie) with a book-related activity. You don't have to have read any particular title off the nominee list, just pick one, show up, and create something awesome!
Please register for each session below individually. All programs ages 13-20.
From Font to Food
What's better than reading about food? Eating it, of course! This is your chance to try one of those delectable dishes you read about in one of the Rosie nominees – food for the mind and the belly.
The votes are in, and in addition to talking Rosies, we'll be making old-school hot chocolate (yes, in June!) with a spicy twist. No instant mix in this recipe, which is featured in two Rosie nominee titles: Hold Me Closer, Necromancer and Before I Fall.

June 25, 6 - 8 P.M. (Main Branch only)
Viral Bookshelves
Word of mouth or words on paper – both mean more coming from you. We'll be creating discrete but creative book-teaser bookmarks for the nominees to be added to the Young Adult area in order to get other teens interested in reading these books, using a variety of art supplies and graphic arts software.
July 9, 3 - 5 P.M. (Main Branch)
July 19, 2 - 4 P.M. (Ellettsville Branch)
Epic Soundtracks
What's the song playing in your head as you read the Rosies? In this session, we'll be making soundtracks to our favorite nominees, talking music with a local veteran of the Bloomington music scene, and designing CD covers for our "albums." Bring music to listen to or artwork for your CD cover if you want. Art supplies and software will be available.
July 23, 6 - 8 P.M. (Main Branch only)
Digital Booktalks
Your chance to get in front of the camera and lobby for your favorite nominee! We'll learn a bit about booktalking, and then film 30-60 second booktalks to get other teens interested in reading the Rosies.
