One Shot at Forever by Chris Ballard is about a small town high school baseball team that has a dream season. It takes place in Macon, Illinois in the early 1970s and the author adeptly transports the reader back to that time period. But the story isn't just about baseball, it is about a teacher with unorthodox teaching methods and how his students/players come to love him. It is about a time and place that can never be again with our current society and win at all costs attitudes. Please read this book, you will enjoy meeting the coach, the players, and the peripheral folks of Macon, Illinois and how they got their one shot at forever.
