50+ Men Who Care

Websitehttps://www.fiftymenwhocare.org/
Address3000 S. Rogers Street
Bloomington, IN 47403
Description

Inspired by the recently formed 100+ Women Who Care of Bloomington, a group of local men have joined forces recently to form “50+ Men Who Care".

Similar to the women, our mission is simple: Bring together 50+ men in the Monroe County area who care about local community causes and are committed to community service.

Four times a year, we will meet for an hour and jointly vote for a local charity or not-for-profit organization (three will be nominated ahead of time).  Each man agrees write a $125 check to the selected organization and watches how the group’s commitment turns into a $5,000 or more donation.

We plan to do this four times a year and witness how this monetary contribution can improve the lives of our neighbors when placed in the hands of deserving grassroots agencies working to serve the local community.

Meets 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 7:30pm.

The Order of the Eastern Star is a Masonic-related fraternal organization of women and men dedicated to charity, truth and loving kindness. This order is comprised of people with deep religious convictions and spiritual values, open to all faiths except no faith. Although not a part of the Masonic fraternity, membership is based on a Masonic affiliation or relationship, a belief in God and a desire to acquire additional knowledge and for self improvement. The degrees of the Order of the Eastern Star teach lessons of fidelity, constancy, loyalty, faith and love. These degrees are presented in a beautiful ritualistic ceremony designed to not only teach the lessons, but also to provide insight for future study and understanding. The organization was founded in the mid to late 1800s by our founder, Dr. Rob Morris, for the expressed purpose of offering support and affiliation to the wives, mothers, daughters, grandchildren, etc. of Free Masons. The organization is open to both male and female.

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. The Bloomington Good Morning Toastmasters is meeting online during the COVID pandemic. Visitors are free to join us Friday mornings at 7a.m. Email us for for the link!

Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour or two. Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian. There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved. Good communicators tend to be good leaders.
