In-Building Services through Sunday, November 29

The Main Library has a building capacity of 100 and the Ellettsville Branch has a capacity of 40. All patrons are asked to limit visits to one hour. The first open hour of each day is reserved for high-risk customers. Children age 11 & under must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver.

In-building services include the use of a computer, digital creativity workstations, scanner, fax machine, copier, and/or printer, as well as the ability to browse the shelves, and pick up holds. Seating has been removed to encourage brief, purposeful visits. Some high-touch collections, such as print newspapers and juvenile toys, are unavailable. Self-check machines are the preferred method for checking out. 

Drive-up pickup is available at the Main Library for those who prefer not to enter the buildings. You can drive, walk, or bike up, and no appointment is required.

Holds placed at the Main Library prior to September 28 can be accessed at the drive-up window or inside the building. Holds placed at Ellettsville prior to September 28 can be accessed inside the building. The Indiana Room, The Commons, the Silent Reading Room, Learn and Play Space, Baby Space, Level Up Audio and Video Production Studios and computer area, all meeting rooms, the Auditorium, and The Ground Floor teen space continue to be closed. Young adult materials remain accessible in the Ellettsville Teen Space, however, the space is closed to social activities.


Curbside Pickup Restarts November 30

The Main Library and Ellettsville Branch Library will return to a curbside pickup by appointment model beginning Monday, November 30. In-building and drive-up window services will be discontinued through early 2021. Hours will remain the same as current hours. Learn more about curbside pickup and make an appointment.


Printing Services for Curbside Pickup Restarts November 30

The Main Library and Ellettsville Branch Library will offer printing services for curbside pickup beginning Monday, November 30. Printing is free with a limit of one request per week per patron. Each request can be a maximum of 50 double-sided pages. Learn more.



The Bookmobile continues to operate its regularly scheduled routes. Please request your items through the Library's online catalog or by calling (812) 349-3050. Given the limited space inside the Bookmobile, visitors will need to remain outside and will not be able to browse the collections. Friends of the Library Bookstore 

The Friends of the Library virtual bookstore offers unique gifts for Library supporters, including masks, bicentennial mugs and ornaments, t-shirts, notecards, tote bags, and more! You can also browse the shelves and order a “blind date with a bag of books” by genre. Items purchased online via the virtual bookstore can be picked up at curbside pickup when ready.


Virtual Services Available

Many virtual services are available, including teen social activities through Discord, VITAL adult learner self-paced programs and English language groups, eLibrary resources, and virtual programming for all ages.



We are committed to a safe, realistic, and community-oriented approach to serving you. For the safety of all, if you are feeling ill, please do not visit. Patrons and staff are required to wear a face-covering while on the premises. Children age 2 and younger are exempt. Ventilator masks are not allowed. Disposable masks are available at all locations for patrons who do not have one. COVID-19 Case Update

An employee who works in an isolated area of the Main Library confirmed they received a positive COVID-19 test result on the evening of November 23. This is the Library's first case of COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic in March. Learn more.


Returns Processing

All return slots are open. Materials will be quarantined for four days upon return, therefore, items will take longer to become available. Due to material quarantines, you may receive overdue notices after returning your items. Please disregard––we do not charge late fines. Material quarantines will not impact your borrowing limits.
