Library Services

Curbside Pickup and Holds

The Main Library and Ellettsville Branch Library are offering curbside pickup by appointment, Monday–Friday, 10 AM–4:30 PM. To reserve items, please place a hold through the Library’s online catalog. Please wait until you receive a notification that your holds are ready, then follow the provided instructions to schedule a pickup appointment time. Beginning July 6, curbside hours will change to better accommodate your needs. Learn more about the process and new hours.

    Printing Services by Appointment

The Main Library and Ellettsville Branch Library will begin offering printing services by appointment on July 6. Printing is free with a limit of one request per week per patron. Each request can be a maximum of 20 double-sided pages. Learn more.

    Library Phone and Chat Assistance

Have a question? Need help? The Library is offering phone and chat reference service on Mondays–Thursdays from 10 AM–4:30 PM and 6–8 PM, and on Fridays from 10 AM–6 PM. Outside of these hours, you can submit a message online or call (812) 349-3050 and leave a message.

Beginning July 6, phone hours will change to:

    • Mondays and Wednesdays: 10 AM–4:30 PM
    • Tuesdays and Thursdays: 12:30–7:30 PM
    • Sundays: 12:30–4:30 PM

    Returns

The Kirkwood Avenue walk-up and Ellettsville Branch Library return slots are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, the drive-up return slot at the Main Library is open during curbside pickup hours.

Library materials will be quarantined for four days after being returned, therefore, items will take longer to become available. Due to material quarantines, you may receive overdue notices after returning your items. Please disregard––the Library does not charge late fines

    Bookmobile

The Bookmobile resumed its regularly scheduled routes on Monday, June 8. Please request your items through the online catalog or by calling (812) 349-3050 during the phone hours listed above. Given the limited space inside the Bookmobile, visitors will need to remain outside and will not be able to browse the collections. Wednesday morning stops have moved to a biweekly outreach van delivery service for facility residents only. View further details and routes.

    Bookstore Donations

The Friends of the Library Bookstore is now accepting donations at both the Main and Ellettsville Branch Library locations. The Main drive-up return slot is open Monday–Friday, 10 AM–4:30 PM, and the Kirkwood Avenue walk-up and Ellettsville Branch return slots are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Items should go in the same return slots as Library materials. Larger donations (more than what may fit inside one reasonably-sized box), and/or delicate items, may be taken on a case-by-case basis by contacting Mike Burns at (812) 349-3083, mburns [at] mcpl.info.

    Meeting Rooms

Currently, all physical Library locations remain closed until further notice. All public meeting rooms are closed through August 31 and reservations have been canceled.

    Evolving Services

Details on expanded hours will be forthcoming. Governor Holcomb’s “Back on Track Indiana” plan gives all of Indiana’s public libraries the ability to phase in services according to local needs, staff capacity, and the community’s situation. The Library’s decisions will continue to be informed by the Governor’s executive orders, recommendations and orders from the state and county health departments, guidelines from the CDC, and cooperative planning efforts with local organizations and public libraries.

    COVID-19 Safeguards

For the limited staff in the buildings, the Library will follow guidance about the number of people per square foot, social distancing, and elevated sanitation practices. Library materials will be quarantined for four days after being returned. View all COVID-19 safeguards.
