Story Summary:
An orphaned boy learns about witches through his grandmother, whom he calls Grandmamma. After their conversation, the boy gets frightened by the stories, and even more when he finds out that he and his grandmother are moving to England , where his grandmother warns that English witches are the most vicious. Neither of the two wants to move, but by the request of the boy's father in his will they travel to England. There, the boy encounters a witch while constructing a treehouse, who tried to lure him down, but the boy did not dare move. The witch eventually went away. He was saved, but this will not be the last time he meets a witch. Then, while the boy and his grandmother are on vacation, the boy finds himself trapped in the same room as the Grand High Witch, the leader of all the witches in the entire world, where she was hosting the yearly witch meeting of the witches of England. He learns that the witches were planning to turn all the children of England into mice, using a potion called "Formula 86 Delayed-Action Mouse-Maker" introduced by the Grand High Witch. Will the boy be able to stop the witches and save the children of England?
