United Way of South Central Indiana

Description:

United Way of South Central Indiana improves people’s lives by working to address our community’s most pressing needs. They bring together expertise, funding, and volunteer support to positively impact the resilience of our community, and those who live within it. In partnership with others, they work to eliminate inequities experienced by low-income and diverse populations so that all people have a safe, healthy home environment, achieve their educational potential, and increase their financial stability. They commit to building bridges across cultural, racial, religious, and economic boundaries. They create and sustain solutions to the most pressing issues in Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Monroe, Orange and Owen counties.

In September 2023, United Way of Monroe County and United Way of South Central Indiana announced that these two organizations have united as one, joining forces to combine their unique abilities, partnerships, and histories to bring new opportunities to the region. Merging creates operational efficiencies, ensuring greater impact while maintaining a strong local presence within each distinct community that makes up the south-central region.

Unity of Bloomington, a Center for Spiritual Growth

Description:

Unity is a positive, practical, progressive spiritual community. We enjoy exploring teachings from Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism and more. Unity honors the universal truths in all religions and respects each individual's right to choose a spiritual path.

We believe and practice the following:
- God is absolute good, everywhere present.
- Human beings have a spark of divinity within them. Their very essence is of God, and therefore they are inherently good.
- Human beings create their experiences by the activity of their thinking.
- Prayer and Meditation are forms of creative thinking that heighten our connection with God.
- Knowing and understanding these principles are not enough. A person must also live the truth that he or she knows.

Vet To Vet

Description:

Vet -to-Vet is trained by the VA, but is not part of the VA. Our groups do not exist to discuss or attain a disability rating.

We are here to learn about ourselves, our problems, and how we affect the other people in our lives. We are here to help each other deal with problems adjusting to life after having been in combat or other military trauma. We are here to help each other deal with problems such as anger, isolation, seclusion, anxiety, depression, and the need to use drugs or alcohol to escape from these problems. We are here to help each other re-learn how to function in society, and how to unlearn the things the military has taught us that prevent us from doing that. We are here for fellowship and our mutual benefit.
