New Volunteers

VITAL's volunteer tutors help thousands of adults attain greater life success through literacy. Topics include reading, writing, math, and English language skills. Tutors can also help learners prepare for the high school equivalency exam, driver's license test, and citizenship test.

Tutors are responsible for creating lesson plans and facilitating weekly tutoring sessions. They should plan to spend 2–3 hours per week on tutoring activities, including a minimum of 1.5 hours of tutoring itself, plus additional time for lesson planning. A time commitment of at least six months is preferred. New tutors attend orientation and training sessions prior to meeting with their assigned learner. All volunteer tutors must be 18 years of age or older.

To get started, please sign up to volunteer. VITAL staff will email you about upcoming opportunities.
