What is Battle of the Books?
Battle of the Books (BOTB) is a reading challenge and trivia competition rolled into one! You’ll have until the day of the competition to read as many of the books on the BOTB booklist as you can. Then, compete as a team to answer questions about the books you read. Each round of the competition is called a battle and will cover a specific book. Each round will be made up of eight questions.

How do you compete?
Teams
Teams are made up of 2–5 tweens ages 8–12. You must register yourself or your team on or before July 12. If you don’t have a team, you can register as an individual and you will be assigned a team the day of the Battle.
Books
There are 10 books on the BOTB booklist. We recommend that each competitor try to read as many books on the list as they can, but it isn’t required.
Prizes
Prizes include glory, knowledge, treasures…and a trophy!
How do you prepare?
Read as many of the books on the list as you can to be the most prepared!
- Each competitor will be allowed one standard 3x5 notecard they may bring to the competition to write anything they like on it, so write notes you think may be important.
- Questions for the book will be made up around the plot, characters, setting, and the theme or moral of the story.
- If you’re signing up as a team, you’re welcome to practice as a team as often as you like.
- The most important thing to remember is...have fun!
