You may pick up a packet of sunflower seeds (and a helpful instructional sheet) at any MCPL location. This packet has approximately 10 Mammoth Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) seeds from High Mowing Organic Seeds.
This competition starts on May 1, and you have until until the end of August to grow your sunflower to see how tall it can get. First, second, and third prizes are $50, $30, and $20 gift certificates to a garden center of your choice in Monroe County. If you placed and earned a prize last year, you’re welcome to participate, but you cannot place or earn a prize this year.
You can start submitting your entries on Friday, August 1, and entries can be submitted through Sunday, August 31. Submit your entries by emailing tallestsunflower [at] mcpl.info.
Email entries must include:
- Your name
- A phone number or email contact
- A photo of your sunflower
- An accurate measurement of your sunflower in feet and inches
