You may pick up a packet of sunflower seeds (and a helpful instructional sheet) at any MCPL location. This packet has approximately 10 Mammoth Grey Stripe Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) seeds from Fedco Seeds.
This competition starts on May 1, and you have until until the end of August to grow your sunflower to see how tall it can get. First, second, and third prizes are $50, $30, and $20 gift certificates to a garden center of your choice in Monroe County. If you placed and earned a prize last year, you’re welcome to participate, but you cannot place or earn a prize this year. Participants must have a current MCPL library card.
You can start submitting your entries on Saturday, August 1, and entries can be submitted through Monday, August 31. Submit your entries by emailing tallestsunflower [at] mcpl.info.
Email entries must include:
- Your name
- Your phone number or email
- A photo of your sunflower
- An accurate measurement of your sunflower in feet and inches
