The Learn and Play Space (LAPS)

LAPSThe Learn and Play Space (LAPS) is designed for children birth–6 and their adult caregivers to explore together with fun learning activities that promote early literacy skills.

LAPS is located in the Main Library's Children's Services space across from the children's reference desk. It opens 30 minutes after the Library opens and closes 30 minutes prior to the Library's closing. The room is open to the public, however, it may be reserved by staff for special programs. It may not be reserved by groups for private use.

There are five permanent learning centers in LAPS––a kitchen, store, writing center, reading center, and a baby area. The baby area is intended for children who are not yet walking. The learning center at the center of the room reflects a rotating theme such as the farm, colors, or other basic concepts.

Adults are expected to stay with their children, to guide them in play, and take responsibility for their behavior. For tips on how to enjoy your time in LAPS, take a look at these suggestions for preparing for your visit to LAPS.
