Blooming Memories Through Music

Description

BMTM has announced the upcoming launch of the pilot program in September 2017 for our complementary residential music sessions for families living with Alzheimer's. We model our initiative after the documentary Alive Inside and our residential teams are made up of one Adult Liaison (mentor) and two BHSN honors music students who create custom playlists for each older adult. Our goals is to reduce the stress of the families/caregivers and to increase the joy in the quality of life of the elders. We hope to educate the community on the empathy factor needed to support caregivers. We also attempt to reduce the isolation factors that arise while loved ones are being allowed to age in place in familiar space with family support

Bloomington Parks Foundation

Websitehttps://bloomingtoninparksfoundation.org/
Description

The Bloomington Parks Foundation, through the community’s generous support, enhances and expands the parks and recreation services of the award-winning Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department. By receiving gifts of land and funds, we are able to secure new park space and trails and improve existing facilities.

We are also able to achieve our goal of improving the lives of children. By providing scholarship assistance to youth whose families’ incomes are in the lowest income brackets, young members of our community can learn lifelong skills such as swimming and build positive relationships through participation in a broad range of park programs.

BloomingVeg

Websitehttps://www.bloomingveg.org
Description

BloomingVeg is an all-ages social and advocacy group for vegetarians, vegans, and veggie-lovers alike in Bloomington, Indiana. BloomingVeg was founded in 2012 in part to organize outings, helping at the local animal sanctuary, promoting & publicizing vegan dining options in Bloomington, leafleting, demonstrating at circuses and engaging in other friendly efforts to help others live more compassionately.

Also because eating is such a social aspect of our lives, we wanted to provide a venue for fun gatherings like Meatless Monday dinners at local  restaurants, potlucks, holiday cookie swaps and more among like-minded people.

If you are a long time vegan or vegetarian, just starting out or maybe you just like eating vegan food--BloomingVeg has something for you.

We Are You

Websitehttps://www.weareyou.social
Description

The goals of our organization are to counteract stereotypes and prejudices against groups of people and to give marginalized people a voice and an opportunity to share their stories. We are going to be taking photos of individuals or couples and posting their photos on social media sites and on posters around town. On the image we are going to have a very concise message that we hope will cause an emotional response and feeling of connectedness from the viewer to the subject(s). We will have a full interview available if the viewer wants to learn more about the individual(s) but on the main image we want the message to be very short so a person will accidentally be exposed to someone from a possibly different background.

We want to give a voice to people feeling under attack right now. We are aiming to include all people from religious/ethnic/racial backgrounds, people who are LGBTQ+, people with disabilities or mental illness and people with different socio-economic statuses.
