Bloomington Garden Club

On September 27, 1938, six women formed The Bloomington Garden Club. These six charter members had the following mission: to promote the knowledge and love of gardening; to aid in the protection of native trees, plants, and birds; and to encourage civic planting and beautification.

Closed membership.

Members and participants must to be nominated to join.

Sponsors the Garden Walk annually and other civic garden projects. Minutes are stored at the Lilly Library.

An association of Permaculture Design Course students, teachers, and friends committed to supporting the relocalization of Bloomington's food and economic systems. Group meets monthly at rotating locations in members homes to share work projects, food, information, seed trading and sharing, and mutual support and education.

The Limestone Daylily and Hosta Society is a Region 2 club of the The American Hemerocallis Society (AHS). The AHS is a forum for persons interested in the advancement of the daylily. It is organized exclusively for educational and scientific purposes, and especially to promote, encourage, and foster the development and improvement of the genus Hemerocallis and public interest therein. This club is also associated with the American Hosta Society. The club works with Hilltop Garden Center and has been involved in local community gardening projects.

Monroe County Master Gardener Association

The mission of the Monroe County Master Gardener Association is to promote the art, science, and pleasure of gardening in the community in cooperation with the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service. Certified Master Gardeners have completed a broad-based Horticulture volunteer training program as well as a minimum of 35 hours of volunteer service. Master Gardeners help others in the community grow by sharing their horticulture knowledge in a variety of ways.

  • Volunteers provide the community with information on gardening practices through workshops and presentations at garden clubs, school, and other community organizations.
  • The annual MCMGA Garden Fair held every spring features over 35 commercial and not-for-profit vendors, a family activity booth, plants sales and more.
  • Over the years, the MCMGA Community Grant program has awarded over $16,000 to numerous groups including schools, religious and community organizations, neighborhood associations, and historical locations throughout the county.

A Master Gardener training program is held annually by the Monroe County Office of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service. To be added to the Master Gardener class notification list, or for more information about the Master Gardener Program in Monroe County, please contact the Purdue Extension Office according to the contact information listed on their website.
