Description

The Monroe County Public Library Foundation, also known as the Friends of the Library, support the mission, vision, and values of the library. The Friends advocate for Monroe County Public Library and support library collections, services, programs, and staff development.

As a nonprofit corporation, the Friends collect and administer the grants, gifts, bequests, and other monies (outside of local tax receipts) that help make the Library's many programs such an integral part of our community. The Friends also staff and run the Friends of the Library Bookstore on the first floor of the Downtown Library. Proceeds from the Bookstore support Library programming and services.

Volunteers in Tutoring Adult Learners (VITAL)

VITAL offers the following services:

  • One-to-one tutoring - Trained tutors help individual learners set goals, gain essential literacy skills, and increase their confidence.
  • New Reader Support Group - An opportunity for new readers to gather and exchange their thoughts and ideas in a supportive and confidential group
  • Additional Tutor Training - In-services are offered in the area of computing, GED tutoring, Laubach Method, and English as a second language
  • Introduction to Tutoring for Volunteers
  • Brown Bag Lunches
