Area 10 Agency on Aging administers 2-1-1 Infolink, in partnership with the United Way of Monroe County and Smithville Telephone. This local 2-1-1 call center maintains a comprehensive database of community resources serving Monroe and Owen counties. Dial 2-1-1 for information about community resources that offer assistance with: Food, Clothing, and Shelter, Affordable Housing Employment, Emergency Financial Assistance Childcare Health and mental health care, including substance abuse services Legal Issues.

To speak to a Community Navigator by phone, dial 2-1-1 or 866-211-9966. A texting option is available as well. Hoosiers can text their zip code to 898-211 during the hours of 8 AM–5 PM EST, Monday through Friday, and communicate with a Community Navigator directly via text.

Since 1917, the Monroe County Chapter of the American Red Cross has provided disaster relief, services to Armed Forces, emergency preparedness and lifesaving programs to Bloomington and the surrounding communities. Today we serve residents in both Monroe and neighboring Owen County 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

This congressionally-mandated service not only applies to major national tragedies but also to single-family incidents, generally fire, flood or tornadoes. Typically Red Cross responds by purchasing food, new clothing and providing shelter for families to help meet immediate emergency needs.

The Adult Day Program provides a safe and secure environment while a caregiver is away. Clients have access to many of the same programs and services provided to our residents. Our Alzheimer's Care Center offers nursing services, nutritional meals, stimulating activities, a beauty salon and barbershop, church groups, and even access to laundry services.

 

For longer-term care, Garden Villa's Advanced Alzheimer's unit provides a quiet, serene environment where residents can receive special care and support. Residents can participate in specialized recreational programs, and our staff can closely assist residents with their day-to-day activities.

Mobility Aids Lending Library (MALL)

The Mobility Aids Lending Library (MALL) is an initiative started by a local group of women with physical disabilities (aka "the Wheelie Women") to serve the greater Bloomington community.  The MALL program matches "gently used" mobility devices free of charge to those who cannot afford them or only need them for a short period of time.  Items may include: canes, crutches, walkers, rollators, and wheelchairs (both manual and powered).

 
Those interested in dropping off or picking up items, or learning more about the program, can do so at the Downtown Library on the last Sunday of the month from 1:00 - 3:00 PM.
