The Shalom Community Center is dedicated to relieving the plight of those experiencing homelessness and poverty in South Central Indiana. Since access to food, housing, education, and health and human services are fundamental human rights; we seek to meet these basic needs. As a non profit resource center, we deliver social services directly and in collaboration with other agencies in a respectful and secure environment. The SING FOR JOY! Community Choir is in its fifth year of rehearsing and presenting concerts. The mission of the SING FOR JOY! Community Choir is to invite all people of the community, including the disabled and those living with dementia with a care partner, to join a vibrant choir in rehearsing and performing music. Members of the SFJ! include people that have never sung to professional singers – ages range from 28 to 94!

Meets at the Area 10 Agency on Aging ENDWRIGHT EAST COMMUNITY CENTER at College Mall on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00pm.

SIREN (the Southern Indiana Renewable Energy Network) is a volunteer-run organization that promotes renewable energy in southern Indiana. We are a project of the nonprofit, 501(c)3, Center for Sustainable Living (CSL). Our primary focus is promoting solar power including photovoltaic (electricity), solar hot water, and solar air heating furnaces for homes, business, churches and schools. They provide community resource information and limited financial help. Also, they collect and distribute donated furniture and appliances to those in need through a voucher system.

 

St. Vincent de Paul is Catholic led, but is open to all who wish to serve Christ by serving others. In Bloomington, they currently have volunteers from the three local Catholic parishes, St. Charles, St. John's and St. Pauls as well as from St. Thomas Lutheran Church and others.

"Sounds of Indiana" is an a-cappella male Barbershop Chorus that sings and performs popular songs in the unique style called Barbershop, focusing on consonant four-part harmony. We meet Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Music classroom at Templeton Elementary School to enjoy the fellowship of creating music together and to prepare for numerous public performances during the year. The Sounds of Indiana chorus belongs to the Cardinal District of the national Barbershop Harmony Society. Visitors and new members are always welcome!

South Central Community Action Program, Inc., serves as an advocate, guide, and leader in providing opportunities for the low-income population to obtain services that will help them become self-sufficient. They offer services to income-eligible households throughout a four-county service area including Monroe, Morgan, Brown, and Owen Counties. They provide weatherization assistance information to make homes safer and more sufficient, help income eligible households with their heat and electric bills through the Energy Assistance program, offer free meetings with knowledgeable healthcare navigators to help people figure out their health insurance coverage, have Head Start and Early Head Start, an innovative initiative called Thriving Connections, and administer the Housing Choice Voucher..
