Bloomington Parks Foundation

Description: 

The Bloomington Parks Foundation, through the community’s generous support, enhances and expands the parks and recreation services of the award-winning Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department. By receiving gifts of land and funds, we are able to secure new park space and trails and improve existing facilities.

We are also able to achieve our goal of improving the lives of children. By providing scholarship assistance to youth whose families’ incomes are in the lowest income brackets, young members of our community can learn lifelong skills such as swimming and build positive relationships through participation in a broad range of park programs.

The District (MCSWMD)

Description: 

In 1990, Solid Waste Management Districts were formed by HB 1240 as a separate local governmental entity to manage solid waste in Indiana. The mission of the Monroe County Solid Waste Management District is to secure a healthier environment in south-central Indiana, by eliminating waste going to final disposal through reduction of source materials, reuse of reusable materials, and recovery of recyclable materials and by offering educational resources and programs; and by promoting sustainable material practices throughout our communities. The District achieves this mission by working with all Monroe County residents, businesses, and community organizations. The public is welcome to attend Board meetings and Citizen Advisory meetings. Limestone Daylily and Hosta Society

The Limestone Daylily and Hosta Society is a Region 2 club of the The American Hemerocallis Society (AHS). The AHS is a forum for persons interested in the advancement of the daylily. Lothlorien Society

Lothlorien Nature Sanctuary is a green haven and center for spiritual retreat dedicated to the healing of the earth and of one another. Lothlorien is part of Elvin H.O.M.E., Inc. (Holy Order of Mother Earth) a federal 501c3 organization. Lothlorien is 109 acres of forested hills and valleys located at the edge of Southern Indiana's limestone belt. Monroe County Master Gardener Association

Description: 

The mission of the Monroe County Master Gardener Association is to promote the art, science, and pleasure of gardening in the community in cooperation with the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service. Certified Master Gardeners have completed a broad-based Horticulture volunteer training program as well as a minimum of 35 hours of volunteer service. Master Gardeners help others in the community grow by sharing their horticulture knowledge in a variety of ways.

  • Volunteers provide the community with information on gardening practices through workshops and presentations at garden clubs, school, and other community organizations.
  • The annual MCMGA Garden Fair held every spring features over 35 commercial and not-for-profit vendors, a family activity booth, plants sales and more.
  • Over the years, the MCMGA Community Grant program has awarded over $16,000 to numerous groups including schools, religious and community organizations, neighborhood associations, and historical locations throughout the county.

A Master Gardener training program is held annually by the Monroe County Office of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service. Pets Alive Nonprofit Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic

Description: 

Since 2005, Pets Alive has performed more than 224,000 affordable, high-quality spay/neuter surgeries. In addition, our Wellness Clinic offers preventative care for pets by providing low-cost vaccines, microchipping, flea/tick treatments and more; in 2021 alone we gave more than 16,000 vaccinations! Our goal is to ensure that all furry family members have access to basic health services, regardless of their person’s financial position. Our mission is to end pet overpopulation through spay/neuter and assist community members and their pets to live their healthiest lives.
